2011 Annual Membership Meeting

Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center recently hosted The Eureka Springs Historical Museum’s annual Membership meeting.
First item on the agenda was to recognize three people who have generously contributed their time and resources to the growth and betterment of the Museum.
A proclamation honoring the years of service to the Museum by their late parents, Warren and Eugenia Keck, was accepted by Alan Keck, Barb Keck McClung and Sharon Keck Parker. Rod McGuire was named Volunteer of the Year for his countless hours of service to the Museum and especially for his work as co-producer and director of the very successful fund raiser, “ Voices from Eureka’s Silent City” living history cemetery tours.
In her account of the state of the Museum, outgoing Chairperson, Nancy Clark, reported that the Museum’s financial position has improved over the last year and that the 1889 Calif House has never been in better shape. Improvements to the second floor are nearly complete and she announced that it is now time to establish a Building Fund for the planned renovations to the first floor. An improved layout and new displays will create a self-guided tour making the Museum a more user friendly and profitable attraction.
A surprise guest appearance by Mae Starr Miller, (convincingly portrayed by Mary Diehl,) who was one of the spirit characters in the 2010 “Voices From Eureka’s Silent City” production, spoke to the group about her life as Eureka’s first and only telephone operator from the inception of phone service in 1895, until her retirement in 1939.

Newly donated pieces of art for the Museum’s collection were on display. They included works by the late Eureka Springs artists Glen Swedlun, Glen Gant, and Tommy Thomas and current artists Ken Addington and Elizabeth Wolfe.
Nominations were submitted and an election was held to fill the three vacant positions on the board. Terry Miller, Nancy Clark and Carol Greer were elected to three year terms.
After the general Membership meeting was adjourned, the regular board meeting convened to elect officers for the coming year. They are Phyllis McGuire, Chairwoman; Sara Armellini, Vice-Chairwoman; Genes Bland, Treasurer and Carol Greer, Secretary.
A brief social period with refreshments completed the evening.
