Annual Christmas Ball & Auction

One of the highlights of the Holidays in Eureka Springs is the Historical Museum’s annual Christmas Ball and Auction. This year the event will be held on Friday, December 10th in the ballroom of the Historic Basin Park Hotel from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Eat, drink and be merry! The festive evening will be filled with the spirit of the season. Dance to the enchanting music of the Jack Mitchell Combo starting at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and sweets provided compliments of the Basin Park Hotel along with your favorite libation available from the cash bar. Groups of eight can reserve their own table for $20.00 plus the cost of their tickets.

There will be both a Silent and a Live Auction of a wide selection of desirable items (possible Christmas gifts or private treasures), from artwork and tools to massages and repair services donated by area businesses. The pieces will be on display during the evening. Many articles may be bid on as be part of the Silent Auction while others will be auctioned off live following the dancing at 10:00 p.m.

The Ball and Auction are yearly fundraisers benefiting  the Museum along with the Souper Soup held in conjunction with the Victorian Classic Race. The newest and most popular event is the Voices from Eureka’s Silent City cemetery tour held in October and, stating in 2011, also in May.

The Museum depends on these fundraisers along with donations, memberships, admission fees, grants, and an allowance from the C.A.P.C. for acting as a visitor’s center for its operating, exhibit  and maintenance expenses. Currently, there are plans to renovate the first floor and  improve and update the exhibits to allow the facility to better serve the community.

Dress is Resort Casual, Black Tie and Gowns are optional Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.

History of the Museum

In 1971 the Ozark Folk Festival Board of Directors purchased the historic Calif House for the purpose of establishing a museum of local history. A museum advisory board accepted the task to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts in the building, and the museum opened to the public October, 1971.

In 1980, Eureka Springs Historical Museum, Inc., an association open to membership to all interested persons, assumed ownership of the museum property and oversight of its operation. The wood and glass store front and two-story ornamented wood porches were replaced as the building was restored to its original appearance.
